I have probably planned or helped plan a million of these kinds of events. Saturday, I sat and received the gift of blessing washing over my daughter and me.
These are the women who attended my daughter's baby shower when we adopted her, babysat her, changed her diapers, witnessed her baptism, taught her in Sunday School, listened to her recite her verses in Vacation Bible School, gave her hand-me-down clothes, corrected, encouraged, rebuked, tutored her in French and math and science, attended her recitals, prayed with and for her, strengthened my feeble arms and weak knees when I was a young mother at the end of myself, took my frantic middle-of-the-night phone calls when she spiked a fever, wept and prayed with me when she tested boundaries as a teenager, cheered me when she packed up her Subaru and left for college, and rejoiced with us when she said, "yes" to God's gift of a husband for her.
These church ladies, my sisters, showered my daughter and me with the sweet aroma of Christian community at its very best.
Ethel left her beautifully creative fingerprints all over this event. She wrote, illustrated and delivered the devotional for my daughter, the bride-to-be. Just when I thought I knew what an amazing gift my friend is, she ascended to new heights of amazingness. Tomorrow, I'll be hosting a guest post from Ethel with the illustrations and text from her devotional.
Today, I give thanks. Continuing to number:

552. The women of my church.
553. Ethel.
554. Moving the ball an inch forward in my son’s future plans.
555. Pastor driving son around to apply for jobs.
556. Safe travels for daughter and fiancé.
557. Pumpkin bagels.
558. Locally made pumpkin ice cream.
559. Husband who works so hard, makes the tough decisions, provides for us so generously.
560. Email messages from Kansas farmer that come from the heart and make me smile.
561. Getting the fall grass seed down.
562. Son attending RUF retreat.
563. Rainbows in the morning sky that call workers out of the store to witness their beauty.
564. Rainbow promises—He remembers, He remembers. He is faithful to all His covenant promises.

"They don't look like Presbyterians to me" what move is that from? Hehe. What a wonderful church family you have!
Oh, Jodi! Of COURSE I can count on you to come through with the Muppet Movie reference! Classic and priceless!
Sounds like a lovely church family and a lot to be thankful for. I've been thinking about pumpkin ice cream lately... but I'll bet Edy's doesn't hold a candle to your locally made stuff : )
I am really happy I stumbled across your blog. You are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family.
I made them throw their hands in the air so they wouldn't look so Presbyterian!?

Love your list, Nancy. What a blessing. God is good, so good.
as a devout member of the frozen-chosen, i was appalled by your attempt at humor.

i found it hilarious. one of the two. :)
also: your post title brought back a memory of my beloved paw paw (now with Jesus) singing and playing his guitar ... "mercy drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead."
sometimes hands just need to be raised :-) I was so blessed to be able to be a part of the day, love you and your girl!!!
Such a sweet and exciting season in your life. What a blessing to have friends by your side for the long haul!
