If It's Good Enough For Israel

Moses told the people of Israel to celebrate the Passover and they did--in the Wilderness of Sinai at evening of the fourteenth day of the first month.  the People of Israel did it all just as GOD had commanded Moses... Numbers 9:4, 5; The Message
No sooner did I post good news about beloved teenage son getting the waiver he needed to join the Army, than did his plans skid sideways, coming to a crashing halt once again.

So here we are, wandering in the wilderness again, knowing we are here by God's appointment and on His timetable.  And of course I want to cry and moan and weep and wail and throw things and eat excessive amounts of chocolate.

But God told Israel to celebrate in the Wilderness.  He told them to celebrate the Passover, to remember His great act of deliverance on their behalf.  And I have been rescued and delivered from much, so I will continue to celebrate and give thanks:

Also linking with my friend Michelle at Graceful in her new Hear It on Sunday, Use It on Monday series.  Even though I read this passage last Friday, I think.

776.  Power that remains on during an ice storm.
777.  Everyone I know who was out on the roads, getting home safely.
778.  Tree branches covered in ice glistening against pale blue sky
779.  Coffee brought back from Costa Rica by dear in-laws on their anniversary trip.
780.  Clouds that look like cotton candy as sun shines through crystals of ice.
781.  A leak in the roof that drips into the bathtub--the best place in the house for a leak to drip!
782.  A leak in the furnace that didn't start until after we returned.
783.  Covered bridges.
784.  Delicious food beautifully presented.
785.  Shared with the man I love.
786.  Frozen beard kisses:
787.  Gas-powered fireplaces.
788.  Candles.
789.  Recognizing that grief can be a gift.
790.  Protection from car that swerved into our lane.
791.  Inside family jokes.
792.  Godly men who encourage teen son.
793.  Text messages asking for prayer.
794.  Son reading from book of Joshua as he considers military service.
795.  Strong sunshine on a zero degree day.

Just as I read your post I was thinking of Ann's "hard eucharisteo" -- and then I saw that you are linking with her 1,000 gifts -- so appropriate. You have a rare gift, the ability to give thanks even in the midst of wilderness. Ann's book is teaching me a lot about hard eucharisteo -- and I am realizing that it takes practice to get to the point you are at.

Thanks for the inspiration, Nancy -- and for linking up at my place today. So grateful for you!!!

Oh, Nancy. I'm so sorry for your disappointment, and so inspired by your resolve to celebrate in the wilderness. The wilderness was a way to a greater thing (just a very inconvenient one from the perspective of the wayfarers). Isn't chocolate a celebratory thing? I think it should be included in your celebration!

Ahhh, celebrating in the wilderness. A good reminder. A very good reminder. Thank you. And I love your sense of humor that shines through, even in difficult times (a leak in the roof that drips into the tub). Adding my prayers to yours, that your son may know the way he should go... (Psalm 143:8)

I just came over from Ann’s. Happy St. Valentine’s Day

Oh, the wilderness times – and 40 years to make a three day journey.

And my fave your list?

791. Inside family jokes. (because I have to giggle at this one – in my pre Christian days – it was our code word for the thing that could not be mentioned around mom – I’m being tactful with my words here – the code word was chocolate. She never got it. We giggled every time – not a holy memory – but a happy one – thank you)

God Bless and Keep You and all of yours

Oh boy! I know those wilderness experiences. I agree - the eating of chocolate is in order. And may I share this with you as you celebrate?

"When Aaron gave out the instructions to the whole company of Israel, they turned to face the wilderness. And there it was: the Glory of God visible in the Cloud." Exodus 16:10 (MSG)

I'm so sorry about the plans for your son. Bless you for being faithful, for giving thanks in the hard things, Nancy. I'll be praying.

And that beard is something else!

Celebrate in the wilderness -- such challenge there, to submit to God, what he allows, rather than our feelings.
